Whatever is taught in a house of worship can be tested for the truth with a few simple questions:
Does it glorify Jesus Christ?
The truth will make Jesus Christ greater to all who receive the truth (E. Rohn)! Because Jesus Christ is literally God incarnate, Who is sometimes called the “Son of God”, the truth about Him will bring awe, wonder and love for Him to everyone who realizes what He has done for us.
Does it make us more like the early church in the Book of Acts?
Paul warned in the Book of Galatians 1:8, “Though we or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (_King James Bible_.Frank Charles Thompson)Hebrews 8:5 exhorts ,”See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern.” (_King James Bible_.Frank Charles Thompson) Furthermore, Jude 3 says, “Earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered unto the saints.” (_King James Bible_.Frank Charles Thompson) (E. Rohn)
Does all Scripture harmonize with the subject?
1 Thessalonians 5:21 states “prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” (_King James Bible_.Frank Charles Thompson) We have not proven any subject until we have harmonized all Scripture relating to it. For instance, we have not demonstrated the truth of baptism in the name of Jesus Christ if we avoid Matthews 28:19; we must harmonize it with the baptismal passages in Acts. Once we have harmonized them, Matthews 28:19 is one of the strongest verses we can use to teach water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ (E. Rohn).
Does it tend to make us live holy lives separated unto God’s service?
The Truth of God will promote holiness in those who heed it. For instance, the truth of the second coming of Jesus Christ promotes holiness, for it is a purifying hope (1 John 3:2-3) (_King James Bible_.Frank Charles Thompson).
In contrast, false doctrine tends to cause those who have accepted it to become lukewarm and false doctrine, of course, is a great weapon in the hands of Satan. For example, if we believe in the doctrine of unconditional eternal security, the enemy of our souls has a weapon to tempt us into careless and unfruitful living (E. Rohn).
